Frequently Asked Questions

Answers common questions about wallets, keys, networks, transfers, gas, DApps, approvals, EVM, Layer 2, Ethereum, PoS and validators.

A digital wallet manages blockchain accounts, addresses and signing actions. Assets are not stored “inside the app”; control comes from the private keys that authorize actions for an address.

A seed phrase is commonly used to derive a set of wallet keys, while a private key directly authorizes signatures for a specific account. Both are highly sensitive and should never be given to a website, support agent or third party.

Offline backup reduces exposure from screenshots, cloud synchronization, chat uploads and malware. The backup medium itself must also be protected against loss and unauthorized access.

Networks maintain independent asset state and gas rules. Before sending, verify the destination network, receiving address, asset and whether the intended service supports that network.

Gas is the network fee required to execute transactions or smart-contract operations. The amount depends on network rules, congestion and the complexity of the action.

A transaction hash is a key reference for checking a transaction on a block explorer, including whether it was submitted, included, confirmed or failed.

Possible causes include congestion, fee conditions, node propagation or an earlier transaction from the same address. Check the correct block explorer first rather than sending the same action repeatedly.

A connection commonly lets a DApp request account or network information. Signatures, approvals and transaction requests that follow are separate decisions and should be reviewed individually.

No. A message signature may be used for login, identity proof or an authorization statement without directly changing on-chain state, while a transaction signature submits a state-changing action. Both require source and content review.

A token approval lets a specified spender use tokens up to an allowance. Review the spender, amount and purpose before approving, and consider revoking permissions that are no longer needed.

Many EVM-compatible networks share the same address format, but their on-chain state is independent. An identical address string does not mean the assets are on the same network.

Layer 2 systems typically extend execution while relying on a base layer for aspects of security, data or finality. Moving assets across layers can involve bridges, waiting periods and multiple confirmations.

After a transaction is included in a block, later blocks can add additional confirmations. Different networks and services may use different thresholds for what they consider sufficiently confirmed.

Check the domain spelling, source and browser address bar. Do not enter sensitive information through links from unknown ads, direct messages or impersonated support. Any page asking for a seed phrase or private key should be treated as dangerous.

Ethereum uses proof of stake, where validators participate in proposing and attesting to blocks. Staking may earn protocol rewards but also involves penalties, waiting periods and technical risk.

Validators that remain offline or violate protocol rules may lose rewards or face network penalties. The exact behavior is defined by the network protocol.

No. Staking does not guarantee returns. Rewards can change with network conditions, participation and protocol rules, while digital asset prices can also fluctuate.

Do not provide a seed phrase, private key or verification code, install unknown remote-control software or approve unfamiliar contracts. Stop the action and verify information through the site’s public help materials.

A common rule for security questions

Keep your seed phrase and private keys under your own control. imtoken staff will never ask for a seed phrase, private key or verification code. Do not send these secrets to anyone; verify the address, network and amount before a transfer. On-chain transactions generally cannot be reversed unilaterally by a wallet, and third-party DApps and smart contracts can carry risk.
